A new wastewater treatment works, including reedbeds, built by Unicon as principal contractor to serve the Club Med resort development on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast.
Project Overview
A resort of this size needs its own sanitation infrastructure, and it needs it ready before the doors open. Unicon was appointed on a full contract to construct the proposed new wastewater treatment works for the Club Med hotel development at Tinley Manor, near Ballito.
The works combine reinforced concrete process structures with pipework, valves, pumps and steel, and include reedbed treatment cells. The programme was short, about five months, which made early procurement of pumps and valves and tight coordination of concrete pours the critical path.

GCC 2015, the General Conditions of Contract for Construction Works, on a full contract. Unicon was the principal contractor and carried programme, quality and subcontractor coordination.
Yes. Most Unicon wastewater work has been for municipalities and water boards, but the same disciplines apply to private developments, where the works usually have to be ready before the buildings they serve.
